Beware:

Scout's room has become quite exclusive as of late.

At least T Rexes seem to be a pretty polite bunch.

The Pirate of Cedar Hills and other stories

It's been quite some time since I posted a journal of funnies entry, so I got two (plus a bonus new dinosaur pic).

Scout - 4
Some months ago, Rob and I and Scout were shopping at the Smith's by our house and while leaving and as Rob was pulling forward out of the parking lot, a guy walked right in front of the car which inspired Rob to have to slam on his brakes. This guy happened to wear a plain black eye patch and wore long, fairly unkempt, vaguely curly hair. He gave us a look like were totally ruining his day (yes, pedestrians have the right of way, but MAYBE they should think about not walking right in front of moving vehicles from a blind spot). Scout asked us if he was a pirate and that tickled us greatly. The whole way home, Rob weaved stories about the Cedar Hills Pirate, they were all chock full of as many pirate stereotypes he could think of. Example: he was at Smiths buying Parrot food, his hook was being shined currently, and there were stories about being a land locked pirate living on your ship. You get the idea (we are awful). So that was a while ago (maybe 3 months?). A few days ago were were driving in Orem and Rob spotted a guy with the same general appearance standing on an intersection corner, he had no eye patch, but had a very crooked walking stick/cane thing. Rob said, "Scout! Do you think that is the pirate of Cedar Hills?" Scout was a tad disgruntled at the time and retorted, "Dad, you said he was just an old dude with an eye patch!"
Rob and I couldn't stop giggling, we remember her starting to get a little nervous about all the pirate talk that day and us ending it by assuring her that we were kidding and he wasn't a pirate. What we didn't remember and Scout was so kind to obviously remember verbatim-- exactly what Rob had said. We giggled mostly because it was the first time we had ever heard Scout say "dude".

Scout -4

Yesterday, I was tidying up the kitchen and Scout was sitting near the recycling garbage and watching me. She started playing with a milk jug that had been rinsed out some days ago, but had been sitting in a hot summer kitchen with some residual watery milk at the bottom for a long enough time to get nice and smelly. I wasn't paying attention and next thing I knew, she had spilled it on her clothes, hands and kiki. There was only a few drops, but certainly enough to make all those things nice and stinky. She was quite disgusted and smelled her hands and yelled, "mom! Why does it smell like toe?"

I may as well add this one, I found it quite funny and it just happened while writing the Cedar Hills Pirate story just now:
She was lying next to the desk and me while typing and looked around and noticed kiki wasn't around (a freshly washed kiki of course, she got put in the washer right after the milk incident, as it turns out, kiki isn't quite as popular smelling like toe -for either of us). I, for some reason teased her a little (I think I know why, I didn't want to be interrupted and have to stop to look for kiki). She started describing kiki to me (she's green and purple...) I tossed a small blanket that happened to be nearby on her and said "this is a blanket and it's purple". She said "it's green and purple" I said, "this blanket is purple", she- (starting to get a little perturbed) said, "it's GREEN and purple" then she snapped as that was enough teasing she could handle when it comes to kiki and said in a different, more serious, enough is enough voice, "it's KIKI you nut!!!"

Here is the latest dinosaur situation I have felt the need to take a picture of:

I think I am going to go through the posts and find all the funny dinosaur adventures my daughter has created and give them their own label. I guess I find the dinosaur adventures so funny because they are dinosaurs. If assorted dolls and little girl things were in their place, it wouldn't really fall under my radar. On a related note, I just noticed that she is holding up the piece of M&M she was saving for daddy. She found a half eaten package of M&M's today on daddy's table and I told her she could have them. She wanted to share them with daddy, so split them up. Needless to say, daddy's pile progressively got smaller and smaller until it was whittled down to one solitary, red M&M. Then, a little later she was eating it and said, this is the last piece, it's for daddy. For the record, that tiny sliver is still sitting on the desk, waiting for daddy to come home and enjoy.

As promised Cat, here is a taste of the kind of creepy munchkin like dance to Conor Oberst.
It's much better live action, but with a little imagination, you can fill in the blanks.

Random Scoutiness Vol V

It's been a while since I have posted a Random Scoutiness (Sept to be exact), and Scout has been very Scout lately, so in the last few weeks I have much to post on the subject.

"The Great Pretend-ears"
Much as I would like to take credit for that wonderful pun, that is the actual name brand of those ears. They were a halloween costume for me a few years back, and we found an old box of random holiday items this year and along with some Christmas stuff, we found some halloween treasures, like these ears. It was not common to find Scout without these ears on for about a week. She was baby leopard and lucky me, there were two pairs so she insisted that I wore the other pair sometimes. Anyway, here are a few pics I took of her sporting them.

Yes, they went to bed with her too.

What started with my car getting a flat tire last week, and me packing Scout a bagged lunch to take to the tire store while we waited for them to fix it (Scout couldn't have been more delighted, you'd think it was the most novel thing ever), quickly turned into a tradition. She wanted me to bag all of her food for all her meals for about 2 days, which turned into her wanting to have picnics. Then she started inviting her "friends" to sup with her and before you know it, you walk into this scene:
The even dispersion of the treats is what really got me here. For all of you that have witnessed "snack time" in nursery, this should look very familiar. I also love how they are all posed to eat. Sadly, the dinosaur and the elephant were the only ones that got dinosaur chicken that day. I am not sure if the dinosaur appreciated that or not. The Elephant also got the smallest chip. I suppose that's fair.

While playing out in the snow the other day, Scout came into the kitchen and asked me for a carrot. I thought, -huh, she must be hungry, but isn't ready to come inside yet. Shortly afterwards, she came back inside and asked me for some olives. Now that was weird, so I asked why and she said, "for my snowman's mouth." Well, it all fell into place at that time, so I told her I didn't have any olives and wondered if raisins would do, and she said yes. I allowed her a few minutes, and then went outside and I found this:
I should have taken a picture of this, but it looked like she attempted to actually make her own snowman first, but didn't know how (there were a few lumps of snow on the driveway that looked like her first try). She then must have seen the great mound of shoveled snow and had a brainstorm that saved her a lot of trouble. I love it! I've got myself a little problem solver on my hands.
Here we have proud Mama Kangaroo and "Hoppy".This picture does not do justice to seeing kiki stuffed into the front of these dunglees. It is all just very snug.
I am not sure that this is what Grandma Wright had in mind when she bought Scout this tea set and doll stroller. But it makes sense in a very Scout sort of way.
I've got one more story here, but no pictures. Scout has had the cold from hell this week. The first day she was sniffly and feverish, the next day she had an ugly cough, the next morning, it had traveled to her eyes, then that next night, she had an earache. Anyway, the poor thing has been so sick, but still managed to make me laugh so hard twice in one day, while relating them to Rob I had to make SEVERAL attempts to get it out (ala Cat's Frankenstein cookies) -I have to add right here that Scout calls Frankenstein "Franklin Einstien" these days much to my amusement. Ok, the first morning she woke up and her eyes were completely glued shut, I would have expected her to panic, but instead calmly yelled out to me that she couldn't open her eyes. I think you have heard me talk about her tendancy when she has a fever to wake up in the middle of the night with an overly loud, feverish voice that is far too alert then it should be, if not, I owe you guys a journal of funnies entry. Anyway, it was 4 in the morning and I got the fever voice. I assessed the situation and got a warm towel and she was wimpering a little at this time and I did one little swipe to one eye and she goes, "I think it's working!" Not long after, she fell back alseep, so I decided to leave the eyes sealed and went back to bed. She woke up at a normal hour, later that morning and called to me again and I brought her into our room and layed her in Rob's arms while I got another warm washcloth. She calmly reaches her hand up and felt around Rob's face just like a blind person and goes, "hi dad". She was also perfectly adept at feeling for her juice, finding the sippy nozzle and taking swigs of it and then feeling for a suitable place to put it down while I worked on her eyes. How quickly she adjusted to a life of the blind! The next morning went down pretty much the same, her telling me she needs her eyes cleaned so she can see. The next morning she called for me to fix her eyes and I go in, and she is casually laying on the floor, against her bed, with her arms folded under her head, just waiting for me, chill as can be. That was the first thing that day that caused me to have trouble relating to Rob what was so funny. The second thing, (now keep in mind, Scout and I have been cooped up in the house for 3 days at this time). I was sitting in the office talking on the phone to Rob, and Scout kept bugging me and trying to get my attention. I am sorry to admit that none of it was working. Well, when she wanted me to look at this mini wrapper of a 3 musketeers -who knows why, and I was ignoring her, she climbed on my chair and held the wrapper between my eye and my glasses. That just totally cracked me up that she came up with that idea to make me look at it. I have to admit, she did get my attention.

Diamond Rooms, Reverent Raccoons and Dang It

The famed dinosaurs are back. This time they all got owies and needed Spongebob band aids.
She said they got "bites".

I decided that next time Scout said something funny, I would write it down a not post until I saved a few up. So I have a few, plus a few more entries into the "Scoutisms dictionary"

Scout made a little book in nursery called "Reverence Raccoon". She wanted me to read it to her on the way home from church, so I did.
It was about what you would expect it to be, such as being quiet in church, folding your arms, etc. After I read it, I said, "Are you going to be like Reverence Raccoon?"
She said, "No."
We were slightly off put and Rob and I just kind of looked at each other like, well ok- she has spoken. Then I said,
"Why not? It would be very nice to be like Reverence Raccoon." She just stayed silent.
About a minute later she said (with a little world weariness in her voice),
"I'll wear the costume later".
I suppose this was just a little close to Halloween.

Scout struggling with a toy (a little disk that shoots out smaller discs)
"Dang it!"
(Takes a quick glance at me)
"I don't like it when I say 'dang it', it's no good"
About one second later.............
"dang it!"

We had a little discussion about using 'dang it' about a week ago, I just mentioned that I would rather her not use that expression (I'm SURE it flies out of my own mouth in her presence about 15 times a day) so I was expecting this. Anyway the same day about 6 hours later she picked up the same toy, and even before she started playing with it said:

"I don't want to say "dang it" -sorry mom!"

(I didn't say a word! Nor did I even give her a look)

Scoutisms

The diamond room: Dining room. This took a long time for us to figure out. She is talking about the little room as you walk in the house to your right. I couldn't figure out why she would call that the diamond room. It is more of a sitting/TV room, but we do dine there quite a bit since it has a TV. But Rob and I have never referred to it as a dining room, we have one off of the kitchen.

I would like to introduce you all to "Milo and Notice". They do a lot of playing together, mostly in Scout's bathroom sink riding boats.
"Notice" just kills me every time.

My brain died when I started trying to remember Scoutisms. Maybe I can come up with more later, and post them. This was originally going to be a journal of funnies exert, but it turned into more shenanigans.

Random Scoutiness Vol IV

It's time once again! I was extremely productive this week and went through all of our pictures on our computer and organized them like a champ and made back up files of them all to put in another location (Sue's house?) in case our house burns down or our computer crashes or gets stolen. (I realize the back ups don't have to be somewhere else if the computer crashes, but why make two back ups? I'm a thinker!) Ok, here is a pic I pulled out of the archives (I went through a lot of pictures of course, while doing this......................
This was an experiment I tried during those days that I didn't have a car last spring. I guess it worked.

She was determined to try on daddy's pants (and shoes).

This was dinner with the Elizabethan Report. We ate kind of late, and poor Scout missed out on all the fun. She still lorded over the occasion and saw to it that we were kept in line. Sorry the camera was almost out of juice and the flash was not working.

First day of preschool. She started last month and has been having a great time. She absolutely loves it and is learning how to count to 20. Her teacher says that she is extremely good with scissors. I don't think she has ever used them before, I don't know what to think of that.....Proud or scared?

Here, she ran into where ever I was and told me that her dinosaurs wanted fruit snacks. I was like whatever, so opened her a package. A while later I walked into the kitchen and found her dinosaurs indeed enjoying their snack. Scout was elsewhere.

I walked upstairs and saw this and went to find Scout and I asked her what her dinosaurs were doing and she said, "looking at bones".
I thought that was a heck of a lot of irony for a 3 year old.
My girl is deep.

The next story has no accompanying photo, but is too funny (Em, you will appreciate this one). The 2nd week she attended nursery in our new ward, I dropped her off and there was a screaming child and a lot of mayhem, but Scout was already happily playing and I thought maybe I should remind the leader of her name, but all I saw in there was some guy, so I was like, eh! and went to class. When I picked her up, there were two guys in there reading them all a story, and I started talking to one of them and he was like, can I ask you your daughter's name? I was like, "It's Scout! Sorry, I didn't remind you of her name, I thought you might have trouble." He was like, "Oh, we are actually both substituting today anyway." Then he said," when we asked her her name, I could have sworn she said, "Bruce"." I laughed and told him that she liked to pretend to be her friend Bruce (and ponies and gorillas, etc). He was like, yeah, we kind of thought that was a strange name for a little girl.
