RIP, Old Friend

My dependable, trusty, never failed me Ipod Shuffle died today at the age of three.

She wheezed her last breath at about 11 am today surrounded by Emily, her adoring companion of all three years. She had just delivered a podcast of a brief history of Lord Byron and was about to load the new Scene Unseen podcast reviewing the movie "The Men Who Stare At Goats" when she passed suddenly without warning. She went fast and didn't suffer, which is good. She was born a surprise present from Rob, when Emily removed the sheets from her side of the bed one night, she was sitting there waiting for her and was her unflappable companion ever since. She served Emily through countless chores (and a recent root canal), delivering podcasts, Radiohead, recorded books, Radiohead and Radiohead. She survived some close calls being dunked in dishwater a few times, stepped on countless times, left in a burning hot car, a freezing cold car and once was even submerged for an indeterminate amount of time by Emily's sometimes mischievous, sometimes naughty young daughter Scout in a glass of apple juice (I guess it was a good thing it was apple juice-heehee sorry. I couldn't help the bad joke).
She was proceeded in death by about 10 pairs of ear phones, 2 docks, Emily's 8G video ipod, and 2 shuffles owned by Rob (I'd say 3 since Rob is on his 4th, but that one survived insurmountable odds to now reside at Sue's house). She is survived by Rob's light blue ipod and a sad lonely pair of ear phones.

RIP old friend- you were well loved, well used, much appreciated and always adored. Even though you were so lightweight, my shirt felt so much lighter without you clipped to it today and the house echoed with the podcast I never got to hear. You will never be forgotten even if I replace you with one of the new fancy shuffles that are so long and sleek and can talk.

Love you, kisses! Sniff......................sigh.

Hahaha, well written, Ems. I was chokeing up at the end. "the house echoed with the podcast I never got to hear", Classic! Bring her up at thanksgiving and I'll bury her by Duncan and Tiny E.

Sorry to laugh at all this because it is so very tragic, but your obit cracked me up! And, Dad, you too. Quite an honor to save a place next to Duncan and Tiny E!Sorry you lost your shuffle. Hope you can replace her soon!

Ah dad, I think she'd like that.

Yeah, Ems. She can play terrestrial music to the sage, sky, grass and gravel. Duncan, Tiny and Shuffle, as a trio can sing that old western classic "tumbleing tumble weed".

Hee hee Gramps, that was funny. Wow, you really loved your shuffle! Sorry it died. I wanted to get a green nano but they didn't have that color so I got black. Love the green though!

You are funny Em. I love your clever posts. Sorry about your ipod. Glad u got so much use and loved her so much. I am surprised it lasted so long. Hopefully you can make new memories with a replacement. BTW I love that song Hallelujiah. Who sings it?

Lovely thoughts dad. Tumbling Tumbleweed, I can see the little scene now. Yes Haley, I did love my shuffle as someone who has always enjoyed doing housework with a little accompaniment, for years I toted around a Discman and those don't have clips so it was annoying to figure out what to do with it, plus had to feed it batteries. Having a teeny tiny device that could be recharged easily and a built in clip (the device is the clip really) that can store the equivalent of 50 cds or so, is like heaven. It revolutionized my life.
Jeanine- the version of Hallelujah on my blog is a remake done by Rufus Wainwright. The song was originally written and recorded by Leonard Coen and has been remade many times. Another notable version was done by the late Jeff Buckley. All versions are good and worth hearing in their own way. It is just an amazing song and I don't know a ton about Leonard Coen but I think this was like his magnum opus of sorts. I've heard stories of him writing it, it took a lot out of him. Next time I win SWS I'll have to add Jeff Buckley's tune, good stuff.

Jeff Buckley died? Yes I love doing housework with my ipod. My nano doesn't have a clip so I just stick it in the waist of my pants and it usually falls through, haha.

I bought one of those jogging arm band things. I better build up some arm muscle cause it slides down my arm sometimes.

Haha Haley, I can't tell you how many times I had to fish my Discman out of my pants. Shuffles all around! Less complicated for moving around, the other ipods are good for cars and counter tops.

I now understand that my ipod death was a self sacrifice. That podcast I was talking about loading just before it died? You know the one my house echoed with that I never got to hear? Well, it's my favorite podcast and that episode they announced they were quitting and will be done forever next month. My dear ipod was died trying to spare my ears from hearing that news. What a little solider. Too bad I have an mp3 phone and heard it anyway. They did happen to read my dvd pick that week too, so that's always fun and exciting to hear your name and pick (even if they mispronounce it- my name, not my pick).

And yes Haley, Jeff Buckley died. It's really sad, he put out his first album, Grace and it was critically acclaimed and he had such a promising future. While working on his second album, one night he was waiting for his band to fly into Tennessee (where he was) to do some recording he took a dip in the Mississippi River and drowned. Autopsy ruled out drugs, etc. it was just an accidental drowning. Lamesauce.

Wow that's crazy. Really lamesauce. WV wintr - it sure feels like it here!

I got an arm band velcro thing for my bright orange NANO for use on the tractor at the airport. Love my Nano, however I have only used about 10 megabytes out of 8 gigs. I need more songs.
